This is a great example of a one-of-a-kind creation! It all began with a trip through Italy. During a Harley Davidson ride to Pompeii; plenty of photographs of the ancient architecture were taken. One picture in particular; of a partially destroyed stone facade; was especially inspiring. During the Italy trip; the Vatican and many cathedrals were visited. This contributed to the decision to design a cross. It was decided that the design would not be a copy of the facade; instead it would be inspired by various elements of the facade and a unique design would be created. A rough sketch was done, followed by more detailed sketches. Then the cross was design by Angelo Jr. using computer assisted design (CAD). A wax model was grown on our 3D printer (CAM). The word "POMPEII" and the Roman numeral 2014 for the year of the trip were designed into the reverse of the cross. The design on the front of the cross was hand engraved by a master hand engraver at Family & Co. Jewelers.
Craftsmanship like this has not been seen since our grandfather's time!
